Brazilian striker Neymar has had a successful surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injury he sustained while playing international duty for his national team.
The attacker was injured during a World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay and underwent surgery on Thursday.
Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, doctor of the Brazilian squad and Atletico-MG, carried out the operation in his own country.
The star’s father shared a video of Neymar in a hospital bed on Instagram, along with a prayer. Neymar also shared a statement on social media. “Everything will be fine,” he said with a photo of his two children.
Despite the successful surgery, the 31-year-old is anticipated to be sidelined until at least the end of the season. Brazil hopes to get him fit and available for the Copa America in the United States next summer.
The injury will be devastating for Al-Hilal, who signed Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year. Neymar has only played five games and scored one goal since joining the Saudi Arabian club for €90 million (£77 million/$98 million).
The former Barcelona great will begin his recuperation and hopes to be ready for the Copa America by then.
