The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission approved an increase in the electricity tariff for customers in the Band A category.

The Vice Chairman of NERC, Musliu Oseni, stated that customers in this category will now pay N225 per kilowatt hour (KW/h) instead of the current N66.

Customers in Band A receive 20–24 hours of electricity daily, while Band B customers receive 16–20 hours, Band C customers receive 12–16 hours, Band D customers receive 8–12 hours, and Band E customers receive 4–8 hours of electricity daily.

Oseni, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, mentioned that customers in Band A make up 15% of the 12 million electricity customers in the country, totaling around 1.8 million subscribers.

He clarified that the review will only impact customers in Band A and not those in other bands. According to sources cited by Bloomberg on Tuesday, power companies will be permitted to increase electricity prices to N200 ($0.15) per KW/h from N68 for urban consumers.

The report quoted individuals in the presidency who are knowledgeable about the situation, stating that this move aims to attract new investments and reduce the $2.3 billion spent on capping tariffs.

In this article, Allub Times focuses on Lagos State subscribers under the Band A tariff plan, who benefit from 20 to 24 hours of electricity consumption daily as outlined by the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.
