The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to bring controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, to court today (Friday) on charges of money laundering.

The EFCC filed six counts against Bobrisky, accusing him of money laundering and abusing the naira. Bobrisky will appear before Justice Abimbola Awogboro, the vacation judge.

According to the charge sheet prepared by EFCC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) and seven other lawyers, Bobrisky is accused of tampering with N400,000 by spraying it while dancing at a social event at the IMAX Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos.

The commission reported that the offense occurred on March 24, 2024. Bobrisky is accused of tampering with N50,000 by spraying it at a social event in July and August 2023 at Aja Junction, Ikorodu, while dancing.

In December 2023, at White Steve Event Hall, Ikeja, Bobrisky allegedly sprayed and tampered with another N20,000 while dancing. He is also accused of doing the same with N20,000 at an event in Oniru, Victoria Island.

The EFCC stated that Bobrisky, operating as Bob Express from September 1, 2021, to April 4, 2024, in Lagos, failed to declare the company’s activities to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering. During this time, a total of N127.7m was deposited into the company’s Ecobank account.

Bobrisky was accused of not submitting a declaration of the company’s activities when another N53m was paid into the company’s account.

The EFCC stated that these actions violated Sections 6 (1)(a) and 19(1) (f) of the Money Laundering (Prevention And Prohibition) Act, and could be punished under Section 19 (2) (b) of the same Act.

Bobrisky has been in EFCC detention since Wednesday night and was unable to meet the conditions for administrative bail offered to him on Thursday.

The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed this information in a phone interview on Thursday evening.

Oyewale said, “He has been granted administrative bail but yet to meet bail conditions.”

Earlier, Oyewale had noted that, “Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of nara notes, and currency mutilation, among others.

“We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira. Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon.”
