Manchester United are said to have joined Chelsea in their pursuit of Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana as a possible replacement for David De Gea.
Manchester United’s contract with the Spaniard expires on June 30. Although the goalie has apparently agreed to a two-year deal with the Red Devils, neither party has signed the renewal agreements.
As a result, United are considering their alternatives, and according to The Athletic, they have settled on the 27-year-old Onana.
United manager Erik ten Hag is thought to be a fan of Onana, having previously worked with him at Ajax. The keeper is comfortable with the ball at his feet, and his distribution skills make him an ideal choice for playing out from the back.
The shot-stopper, however, will not be cheap, as he is under contract with the Nerazzurri until 2027, and the Serie A club will most certainly demand £70 million in transfer costs.
If De Gea departs the club, United may go all-in on Onana. If he stays, Dean Henderson may be sent to Nottingham Forest, as the Tricky Trees are waiting in the wings to make an official bid once they have more information about the situation.
Then, United will look for a backup goalkeeper, and they have already shortlisted Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen, who has also attracted interest from Burnley and Brighton.
United have already triggered a one-year contract extension for Tom Heaton, signaling a high level of uncertainty in the goalkeeping situation.
United will face heavy competition from Chelsea for Onana, with the Blues willing to spend big to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Furthermore, Ten Hag has sought a high-quality midfielder and a forward, which may prohibit them from spending heavily on Onana.
