Manchester United are looking at potential alternatives for Erik ten Hag, whose status is under review following the club’s dismal start to the season.

United have endured two consecutive severe defeats at Old Trafford, losing 3-0 to Manchester City in the Premier League and then 3-0 to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils’ coach’s job is being questioned, and The Times says that the club is already contemplating alternatives to take his place if he is fired.

Former Real Madrid player and coach Zinedine Zidane is thought to be one of the candidates they are considering, as is Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim.

The continuing acquisition process, on the other hand, complicates matters. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group is negotiating a 25% interest in the club and authority over sporting matters, including managerial selections.

Despite his team losing three or more games in a row for the first time in 61 years, Ten Hag believes he can turn things around.

He wrote in United Review this week: “While this has not been the start to the season that we had all hoped for, I am certain that we have the talent and attitude as a collective to move in the right direction. I believe that it is only a matter of time before we are showing our true selves. It will come, I am certain. I continue to believe in these players and am confident we will improve after a difficult start to the season.”

Ten Hag and his Red Devils stars will be under pressure to deliver a positive result against Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
