Rafa Benitez has been fired as the manager of Celta Vigo after being in charge for less than a season.
The decision was made following Celta Vigo’s 4-0 loss to Real Madrid on Sunday.
As a result of the match, Celta Vigo is now just one place and two points above the relegation zone in La Liga.
During his time at Celta Vigo, Benitez only managed to win five out of 28 league matches.
The 63-year-old was appointed as manager last summer.
Celta Vigo expressed their gratitude to Benitez and his departing staff in a statement released on Tuesday.
The Spanish club also praised their “honesty and professionalism” while at the club.
Benitez has previously managed teams such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Real Madrid.
