Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court in Kano has declared the candidature of Abia State Governor-elect Dr Alex Otti and all Labour Party candidates in Abia and Kano States null and void.

The court concluded that their election did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act of 2022.

A copy of the court’s decision was made available to journalists 0n Friday.

The court found in Mr Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim’s lawsuit against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the Labour Party’s failure to submit its membership registration to the INEC within 30 days of their primaries invalidates the process.

He concluded that because the party did not follow the provisions of the electoral laws, it could not be considered a candidate in an election and could not be declared the winner.

As a result, it declared that the votes credited to Alex Otti were a waste of time.
