The Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles III, the British monarch, will return to his public duties next week after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

In February, the palace revealed that the 75-year-old monarch had cancer detected during tests after a procedure for an enlarged prostate.

Although King Charles kept up with official state duties, the diagnosis led him to delay public appearances for treatment and rest.

Following treatment and recovery, the monarch has made significant progress and is now considered well enough to resume his public duties.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace stated, “His Majesty’s treatment program will continue, but doctors are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far that the king is now able to resume a number of public-facing duties.”

The spokesperson added:

“His Majesty is greatly encouraged to be resuming some public-facing duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise.”

However, no additional information about his condition or treatment was given, following standard medical privacy rules.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit a cancer treatment center in London next Tuesday to mark his return.

Although it was confirmed that Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will visit in late June, King Charles will not follow his usual summer schedule. Instead, his plans will be made with his medical team to reduce the risks to his recovery.

During the monarch’s absence, news emerged that his daughter-in-law, Kate, is undergoing preventative chemotherapy after tests following major abdominal surgery revealed cancer.

King Charles’s health scare happened less than 18 months into his reign after succeeding his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, and less than a year since his coronation.

Buckingham Palace expressed gratitude for the kindness and good wishes received during the past year’s ups and downs.
