A squadron leader named Nurudeen Popoola from the Nigerian Air Force, who was kidnapped in December of last year, has been freed.

Allub Times learned that the Air Force officer is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital that has not been disclosed.

Popoola was taken captive along with his wife, Ganiyat Olawale-Popoola, and one of their cousins, Abdulmumuny Folaranmi at their home in National Eye Centre Quarters, Mando, Kaduna.

A family member had previously made an appeal in February of this year to the authorities to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped victims.

According to reports, the Airforce officer was released after a sum of money was paid, although the kidnappers have not yet released his wife and cousin.

”As much as we thank God Almighty and everyone that has supported this cause, for sparing our brother’s life and bringing him back home, we are still saddened that the wife and our son are still held in the Kaduna forest.

”Please help us continue to pray for the other two still in captivity so that they will be released without any conditions and in good condition,” he said.

Another resident of Iseyin confirmed that the officer was released on Friday.

“He was released yesterday. He has been taken to a hospital. The bottom line is that he has been released. The wife and the boy who is a student have not been released. We are praying to God for their own release,” he said.
