Dr Comfort Adokwe, a Nasarawa State University lecturer who was kidnapped on Sunday, has been released.
Adokwe, a lecturer in the university’s Faculty of Administration and the school’s Deputy Director of Gender Studies, was kidnapped from her home in Angwan Jaba in Keffi on Sunday night by gunmen.
Timothy Adokwe, Comfort’s brother, confirmed the release of the lecturer, according to DAILY POST.
“Yes, she was released around 8:30,” he said.
He claimed that the kidnappers requested a N100 million ransom at first.
He acknowledged that the family paid an unspecified sum to ensure her release.
Timothy, on the other hand, praised the military and the Department of State Services, DSS, for their assistance in the rescue of his sister, noting that while they couldn’t approach any closer to Comfort to avoid any injury, they monitored via satellite.
“Actually, the police were not there, but the military and the DSS were involved, but at the outskirts because they tried to monitor from their satellite and know the location, but you know, they can’t just enter directly,” he said.
Adokwe stated that his sister was transported to an undisclosed hospital for medical examination, but that she is fine and has been reunited with her husband and daughter.
He asked the government to guarantee that development reaches areas where kidnappers predominate.
He claimed that the VC of the university, who had previously been kidnapped, was rescued from the same area.
