Real Madrid stated on Monday that keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has agreed to spend the entire season on loan with the Spanish club.
Thibaut Courtois, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during a training session last Thursday, will be replaced by the 28-year-old.
Kepa joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for a club record fee of 80 million euros, but he fell out of favor with the London club, who this summer, signed goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion.
He was reportedly chased by Bayern Munich, who are looking for a replacement for their injured goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, but Real Madrid moved faster to win the contract. Real will be without one of their important players for the foreseeable future as a result of Courtois’ injury.
The goalkeeper might make his debut against Almeria later this week, as Los Blancos look for their second win of the season.
