Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has justified the demolition campaign launched by his administration since taking office on May 29.

During Sallah homage by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and members of the emirate council, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the demolition activity, noting that it is done to recover public properties.

According to his spokesperson, Hisham Habib, Governor Yusuf stressed the need to retrieve public properties unjustly acquired by individuals and associates of the former administration.

He stated, “Your Highness, it is important for the emirate council to note that we embarked on the demolition exercise to reclaim public properties that were illegally acquired, and we will ensure that all such properties are restored for the benefit of the good people of Kano.”

The Governor thanked the Emir and the emirate council for their visit, noting that it was the first of its sort since he took office.

He used the occasion to highlight numerous accomplishments of his administration in the previous 31 days.

These achievements included the payment of NECO tuition totaling 1.5 billion naira for 55,000 secondary school students, the restoration of street lights, and a decrease in phone theft in Kano.

The Governor also cited the restart of the screening process for awarding international scholarships to Kano indigenes with first-class degrees, the timely payment of salaries and pensions, and the successful evacuation of thousands of tons of waste in the city.

In response, the Emir expressed his desire to celebrate Eid Kabir with the Governor and informed him of his willingness to offer guidance on the development of the state.

He also asked the government and wealthy individuals to help the less fortunate, particularly in light of the recent withdrawal of gasoline subsidies.
