A judge in Kano has ordered the owner of a noisy rooster to slaughter it on or before Friday March 7th, 2023, following a noise pollution complaint from neighbors.

According to the Premium Times news website, the Kano based court deemed the cockerel a nuisance to the neighborhood for its constant crowing, which two neighbors claimed deprived them of sleep.

Yusuf Muhammed, one of the neighbors, told the judge that the rooster’s crowing violated his right to sleep.

Isyaku Shu’aibu told the court that he purchased the bird for Good Friday festivities and requested that it be held until the Christian holy day before being slaughtered for a family feast.

According to the Daily Trust news website, Magistrate Halima Wali granted the request on Tuesday but cautioned him to keep the cockerel from roaming the area and disturbing residents.

The owner was also told that he must slaughter the bird on Friday or risk a fine.
