Josko Gvardiol will have his physical at Manchester City on Friday, according to manager Pep Guardiola.
City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Gvardiol was having his physical at the club’s training complex ahead of a £77 million ($97 million) deal from RB Leipzig. Guardiola also joked about the Croatian having the same name as him.
“Regarding Gvardiol, what a beatuiful name surname he has!” Guardiola told a press conference ahead of the Community Shield against Arsenal. “He’s doing a medical test, so everybody knows he’s here. Hopefully, we can finish the deal in the next hours or next days.”
Gvardiol will be City’s second signing of the summer, following the £25 million acquisition of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. However, the manager stated that the club’s transfer activity was not yet complete. And, considering the arduous nature of the season, he believes having six center-backs is not excessive.
“I don’t know [if City’s business is finished]. I think it’s going to move something, it’s not [done] yet,” he added.
The treble winners take on Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday before launching their Premier League title defense against Burnley on August 1.
