President Bola Tinubu met former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, his first formal visit from one of his predecessors.
Jonathan, who also serves as the Head of the ECOWAS Mediation Team in Mali, stated that the purpose of the visit was to discuss issues concerning Africa and the West African subregion.
“I came to brief the president about some continental and subcontinental bodies,” he told journalists on his exit from the State House in Abuja.
“I am the ECOWAS mediator for Mali and I’m the chair of the West African Elders Forum. So, there are certain issues bordering on the continent and the subregion that I discuss with various presidents.”
Tinubu also received the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), according to a statement issued by the State House’s Director of Information, Abiodun Oladunjoye.
The President promised that his administration would devote greater resources to education in order to ensure that every Nigerian child, regardless of background, had access to a high-quality education.
He also stated that poverty should not be a barrier to education, emphasizing education’s transformative role in eliminating poverty.
”If we all believe that education is the greatest weapon against poverty, then we have to invest in it,” he was quoted as saying.
