Jean-Louis Gasset, the coach of Ivory Coast, the hosts of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has been sacked.

The country’s football federation announced on Wednesday that they have ended the contracts of Gasset and his assistant Ghislain Printant due to their poor performance.

The decision comes just two days after Ivory Coast’s 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea in the AFCON.

The Ivory Coast suffered their worst-ever home defeat, resulting in a heavy loss. This makes them the first AFCON host team to lose two group games since 1984.

Despite this setback, there is still a slim chance for Ivory Coast to advance to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.

In the meantime, Emerse Fae, one of Gasset’s coaches, will temporarily lead the team.
