Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has come back to Nigeria with a mission to remove killer herdsmen from Yorubaland.
Igboho announced his goal during his mother’s burial in Igboho, Oyo State, urging the community to unite in reclaiming their lands from the herders.
Speaking to the crowd, Igboho expressed his disappointment with the government’s handling of the issues caused by killer herders and called on local communities to take control of their own security.
He stressed the need for unity in defending Yoruba lands, saying, “Let us mount security in all the Yoruba lands ourselves; if not, they will take our lands.”
Igboho pointed out the challenges faced by farmers because of the activities of the herders and criticized the deployment of police and soldiers, especially in Ekiti State, where traditional rulers were killed.
He urged for a joint effort to push back against the encroachment of herders and protect Yoruba communities.
“It was my mother that was my fear before, but now she’s gone, I have nothing to be scared of again. I am now back to take back our land,” he added.
Igboho denied accusations that he was working for politicians. He questioned whether he would even be willing to work for politicians if they still wanted him dead.
His words: “I am not working for any politician. In fact, if I incidentally slapped someone, the government would be ready to arrest me and put me behind bars.
“I know they are watching me closely now to know my next action, but I’m ready to take a step to stop these marauders’ activities in our lands.”
