Unidentified gunmen have killed Alhaji Abdulmutalib Jankada, the traditional ruler of Sansani chiefdom in Gassol local government area of Taraba State.

The monarch passed away from multiple gunshot wounds sustained during the attack on Thursday night.

Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived in Sansani town on motorcycles and entered the palace to carry out the assassination of the traditional ruler.

Reports indicate that the gunmen targeted the monarch’s room and fired multiple shots directly at him. After killing him, the attackers took the victim’s phones.

Reports indicate that the king died immediately.

Musa Sansani, who lives in Sansani town, mentioned that they heard gunshots but were unaware they came from the palace.

“The late chief told us Yesterday that he was traveling to Ibbi for Nwonyo fishing Festival which is taking place on Friday and Saturday,” Sansani told DailyTrust.

“We never knew the Chief did not travel Yesterday evening so when we heard the gunshots, we did not suspect it was inside the palace,” he said.

After killing the monarch, the gunmen quietly left the town. The resident mentioned that it was the monarch’s wife who discovered him dead and alerted others.

“We are mourning and the late chief will be buried after Friday prayers,” he said

“The late chief was abducted along Jalingo-Wukari road two years ago and ransom was paid before his release,” he said.
