Security personnel have taken over the Rivers State House of Assembly complex following an explosion at the near the legislative chamber.

Visitodell reports that an explosion shook the Rivers State House of Assembly compound on Sunday night, destroying some structures in the chamber.

According to reports, the incident began at 9:30 p.m. when some suspected arsonists tossed an explosive into the complex, causing a fire to break out in the assembly building.

This comes amid reports that certain lawmakers are plotting to impeach Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara over his spat with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

It was found that some MPs had agreed to impeach the Majority Leader, Eddison Ehie, first, paving the way for Fubara’s dismissal.

According to Leadership, however, more than 50 security personnel from the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over the Assembly Complex and the entire street leading to the legislative building.

On Monday morning, however, security personnel recommended cars and other road users to take alternate routes to their destinations.

In addition, around 17 security trucks and four Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) were stationed at the manufacturing complex’s entrance and surroundings.
