The All Progressives Congress National Working Committee (APC-NWC), chaired by Abdullahi Ganduje, has commenced processes to seek the approval of the party’s National Executive Committee to confirm the NWC’s new officers.

According to reports, the party’s leadership received a list of nominations from state party chapters in accordance with the mandate given to the NWC at the last NEC meeting last week at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

Saliu Lukman, APC Vice Chairman (Northwest), and Ahmad El-Marzup, Legal Adviser, resigned, while two NWC members – Senator Abubakar Kyari and Dr. Beta Edu – were selected as ministers by President Bola Tinubu, while a member died.

The new officers awaiting ratification by the National Executive Committee (NEC) are former Cross River State Commissioner for Local Government, Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo (Women Leader); Borno State APC Chairman Ali Dalori (Deputy National Chairman, North); former Nasarawa State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Prof. Abdulkarim Kana (Legal Adviser), former Abia, State House of Assembly Speaker Martins Azubuike (Welfare Officer), and ex-Special Adviser on Water Resources to Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Ismail (Deputy National Publicity Secretary).

The decision to fill the seats is in accordance with the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) order.

A source in the party told The PUNCH, “Although the name of Lukman’s replacement has yet to be officially sent, we were told Kaduna APC Chairman, Commodore Emmanual Jekada (retd.), is their choice to emerge as the next National Vice Chairman for North-West.

“These are proposed names, but nothing is cast in stone. For now, the names have yet to get the nod of the NWC. We have not discussed them nor submitted them to NEC as a body.”

He also rejected out a mini-convention, stating that the governing party would officially inaugurate the new officers once the NEC approved them.
