Nigerian songwriter and artist Larry Gaaga has joined the executive team of creative services firm gamma.
The move follows the company’s May expansion into Africa and the Middle East, which was led by South African music executive Sipho Dlamini.
Gaaga, who most recently served as vice-president for A&R at Def Jam Africa, will be headquartered in Lagos as vice-president/general manager for Africa. His key responsibilities will include providing long-term strategic direction, generating revenue development, and growing market presence across Africa. Through collaborations and partnerships with the larger company, he will spearhead projects to cultivate local talent, ensuring their success both domestically and on the global stage.
“I am honoured and excited to take on the new role,” Gaaga said. “This presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth of the entertainment industry across the continent, promoting local talent and showcasing the incredible creativity and diversity of our artists to the world.”,
gamma. special advisor Naomi Campbell added: “Artistic brilliance knows no bounds. Larry’s appointment exemplifies the spirit of artistic empowerment. I am thrilled to have played a part in bringing his visionary talents to this artist-first platform.”
Dany Neville, a veteran Arab singer and DJ, has been named vice-president, A&R, Middle East, and will be located in Dubai.
“gamma.’s mission is to both nurture talent local to Africa and the Middle East into global superstars as well as to open the continent for Western artists to reach new fans and opportunities,” Dlamini said. “Both Larry and Dany have the historical background and cultural fluency critical to establishing the relationships and resources necessary for us to succeed.”
“Larry and Dany’s extensive experience, deep understanding of the local music landscapes and relentless passion for nurturing talent are welcome additions to the gamma. family,” added gamma. co-founder and CEO Larry Jackson. “Together, they will strengthen our market presence and drive significant growth across Africa and the Middle East.”
Launched in March, gamma. has collaborations with US rapper Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, and emerging R&B artist October London, among others, for exclusive rights to sell and distribute the renowned Death Row Records catalogue and new songs.
