Chelsea won their seventh Premier League match of the season on Wednesday night thanks to a late penalty kick from Noni Madueke against Crystal Palace.

As a result, Mauricio Pochettino’s position at Stamford Bridge appears to be a little bit safer.

The Blues were lucky to come away with all three points, despite a very impressive first-half performance.

Michael Olise struck an incredible goal against his old club in first-half stoppage time, and although Palace have now lost 12 straight meetings against Chelsea, they came dangerously close to taking a point.

But as the game was drawing to a close, Eberechi Eze fouled Madueke just inside the 18-yard line, and the England U21 international scored the ensuing penalty in the 89th minute.

Pochettino has received some much-needed relief after receiving strong calls for his resignation following the 2-1 loss to the Wolves on Christmas Eve.

Despite the victory over Crystal Palace, the Chelsea head coach is still in danger of losing his job—at least in the eyes of the Blues supporters—after a terrible string of performances.

Although it was unfortunate for the Stamford Bridge team to begin the season with so few points, their form has declined, and their drab performances have become the norm.

It needed Chelsea’s 89th penalty to defeat Roy Hodgson’s team despite Palace having not experienced victory in the Premier League since November 4—the longest winless streak in the division.
