A High Court in Kano State has sentenced five members of a vigilante group to death by hanging for the murder of a 17-year-old boy.

The convicted individuals are Emmanuel Korau, Elisha Ayuba, Irimiya Timothy, Auwalu Jafar, and Mustapha Haladu.

They were part of the Sani Abacha Youth Centre and were brought before the court for the killing of Ahmed Musa.

The prosecution, led by Barrister Lamido Soron-Dinki, stated that the crime took place on January 22, 2022, at Sabon Titi, Panshekara, Kumbotso LGA.

The convicts conspired and attacked the victim while he was crossing Sabon Titi, Panshekara Road, at around 10 a.m.

According to him, “The defendants came out from a tricycle and started beating the deceased with a long wooden hard stick (club); in the process, the deceased held the stick, and as a result, he sustained grievous injuries that led to his death.”

The presiding judge, Chief Judge Justice Dije Aboki, stated that the prosecution counsel had presented five witnesses to the court and successfully proven the case without any doubt.

The judge mentioned that the offense went against the regulations stated in sections 97 and 221(b) of the Penal Code.

Consequently, Justice Dije Aboki sentenced the five defendants to death by hanging.
