Four individuals, including two pilots, tragically lost their lives in Indonesia on Thursday when two military aircraft crashed into a mountainside during a training session, according to a spokesperson from the air force.
The incident occurred after two Embraer Super Tucano planes departed from the city of Malang in East Java. Unfortunately, contact with the aircraft was lost just thirty minutes into their routine formation training.
“All the bodies have been found,” spokesperson Agung Sasongko Jati told AFP.
“Two are already in the hangar, two are still in transportation to the base.”
According to Jati, the two pilots and two co-pilots were discovered thanks to information provided by the public regarding the location of the plane crashes.
They were found on a mountainside near Mount Bromo in East Java, which is situated on Indonesia’s most densely populated island. It is believed that the planes collided with a steep slope.
The investigators are expected to arrive at the site on Friday to examine the flight recorders and other data from the planes.
“The crash investigation personnel will come and know exactly what happened. They will have the voice communication, flight data, and the engine data and video,” Jati said.
He informed the reporters that the two turboprop light attack planes were in good condition.
Despite heavily relying on air transport to connect its numerous islands, Indonesia, a vast archipelago, has a poor air safety record.
In the past nine years, it has experienced three significant commercial plane crashes.
