The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has apologized to Liverpool for allowing Luis Diaz’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur to stand.
PGMOL said in a statement posted Saturday evening that there was “significant human error” in the decision-making process.
It read: “PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool.
“The goal by Luiz Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.
“PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error. PGMOL will immediately be contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error.”
Diaz got underneath the Spurs defense before blasting into the bottom corner past Guglielmo Vicario.
The linesman, on the other hand, had his flag up for offside. Despite VAR intervention, the TV cameras did not show the offside lines, despite the Colombian appearing to be onside.
Heung-min Son then put the hosts ahead before Cody Gakpo equalized for the Reds.
Liverpool were seconds away from departing North London with a point as Joel Matip put into his own goal.
