David Raya emerged as the hero by saving two penalties from Porto, allowing Arsenal to score four out of four and advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in 14 years.
Porto put up a good fight, with Leandro Trossard‘s goal being the only one they let in during 210 minutes of play.
The goal, created by Martin Odegaard and expertly finished, came just before halftime, when Porto seemed to be in the lead.
Despite their strong defense and attacking efforts, Arsenal had few opportunities to score in the second half. Odegaard did manage to score a goal, but VAR showed that it was a result of a foul by Kai Havertz on Pepe.
Arsenal had a tough time gaining momentum after that, and the extra time was messy. Mikel Arteta sent attackers on as his players tried to avoid losing.
However, during the penalty shootout, Odegaard, Havertz, Saka, and Rice all scored confidently, while Raya saved shots from Wendell and Galeno, sending the London club to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
