Court Remands Three In Prison Over Ibadan Explosion

Published:

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has ordered the detention of a woman and two men for their involvement in the Bodija explosion on January 16.

The police accused Ramatu Camara, 47, Ganiu Malik, 20, and Abubakar Samasa, 64, of conspiracy, using weapons of mass destruction, storing radioactive materials, and dispersing biological weapons. However, they pleaded not guilty.

Justice E.U. Akpan ordered them to be held in the Agodi correctional center and postponed the case until April 11 for a hearing on their bail requests.

The police prosecutor, Michael Ojeah, stated that Camara, Malik, and Samasa faced five charges.

Ojeah explained that the defendants, along with others, committed the crime on January 16 at Aderinola of Dejo-Oyelese Street, Adeyi Avenue, Old Bodija Ibadan, Oyo State, around 7:30 p.m.

The prosecution mentioned that the defendants stored radioactive materials in a building that exploded, resulting in the deaths of a 65-year-old woman named Bolanle Badmus and 13 others.

He expressed readiness to present his case, while the defense counsel, Mr. Adeola Adebayo, requested a brief adjournment to file some applications.

The prosecutor highlighted that the offense violated sections 26, 42 (A) and (B), 43(1) (A), and (2) (C) 1 (A) 58 (1) (A) of the Terrorism, Prohibition, and Prevention Act 2022.
