As a member of head coach Mauricio Pochettino‘s first team, Chelsea has reached an agreement for Alex Matos to spend the remainder of the season on loan at Huddersfield Town.
Matos is anticipated to spend the second half of the campaign at Championship team Huddersfield in order to gain additional crucial experience.
Matos, 19, made his Premier League debut this season against Fulham as a substitute. He also made an appearance off the bench in the Carabao Cup victory against Blackburn Rovers.
However, Matos will probably find it more difficult to get first-team opportunities at Chelsea in the second half of the season when players from the first team recover from injuries.
Although he hasn’t been used as a substitute in recent weeks, it has been decided that a loan period and more opportunities to play regularly will benefit his growth.
Matos, who was acquired by Chelsea from Norwich City in the summer, has won over Pochettino and the team’s staff with his training demeanour and performances.
Under Darren Moore’s management, Huddersfield is fighting to avoid relegation from the Championship and is currently just one spot above the drop zone.
Andrey Santos, a teenage player from Chelsea, is also anticipated to rejoin the team by the end of the week, while Matos gets ready to go on loan.
Santos has only started one game and made two appearances overall for Nottingham Forest throughout the first half of the season; Chelsea has chosen to end his loan there.
Although the clubs’ relationship has been considered stable, Santos’s lack of additional opportunities at Forest has understandably caused dissatisfaction at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea reportedly thought Forest would sell midfield players to make room for Santos, but Ibrahim Sangare was signed by the Midlands club immediately before the summer transfer market closed.
