Chelsea have confirmed the signing of France international Axel Disasi from Monaco.
The centre-back has signed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge and brings a wealth of first-team experience with him. Disasi has made 130 Ligue 1 games, has been capped four times by France, and was a member of his country’s World Cup squad in Qatar last year.
Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: ‘Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage.
‘He is ready to take the next step in his career and we are delighted that will be with Chelsea. We welcome him to the club and look forward to him joining up with Mauricio Pochettino and his new teammates in the days ahead.’
Disasi, who was born in the Paris neighborhood of Gonesse, began his career with Paris FC and made his debut in the French second division in 2015. Following his move to Reims, the centre-back helped the team achieve promotion to Ligue 1 as champions at the end of the 2017/18 season.
Following a successful Ligue 1 season, he moved to Monaco. Disasi went on to make 129 appearances for the Monegasques in all competitions, catching the attention of France head coach Didier Deschamps.
Disasi was chosen for the 2022 World Cup and made his international debut against Tunisia, becoming the first French player to do so since 1966. The 25-year-old would return to the event twice more, as France reached the final and as runners-up.
Disasi, a fearsome force in the air, an astute reader of the game, and a defender capable of playing right back when needed, will now face Premier League attackers under Pochettino.
