Chelsea have made a bid for Djordje Petrovic, the New England Revolution goalkeeper, as a prospective replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Chelsea have already signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton and are seeking for a backup keeper after selling Edouard Mendy to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli and loaning Kepa to Real Madrid.
The Blues have already made a £15 million ($19 million) approach for the New England Revolution goalkeeper, according to Jacob Steinberg.
Petrovic is widely regarded as the greatest goalkeeper in Major League Soccer right now, and he has been connected with a number of European clubs this summer, including Manchester United, who were rumored to be interested prior to the signing of Andre Onana.
According to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, if the deal goes through, it will be the most transfer from Major League Soccer for a goalkeeper, topping Chelsea’s previous transaction for Gaga Slonina from the Chicago Fire.
Chelsea began their Premier League season with a 1-1 draw at home against Liverpool. The Revs will resume their MLS season later this weekend, but whether Petrovic will play remains to be seen.
