Popular Afrobeat artist Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, shares that the profound influence of mothers inspired his track ‘Thanks.’

The song is part of the 15-track album ‘I Told Them,’ released in August 2023.

In a recent post on his official platform, Burna Boy shared the motivation behind creating ‘Thanks,’ attributing it to the contrasting emotions he experienced with his grandmother.

He recounted the past, where she would plead for him to return home but swiftly ask him to leave upon his visits. Despite this peculiar dynamic, Burna Boy expressed profound gratitude to his grandmother, and the song serves as a reflection of these complex sentiments.

As the festive season approaches, Burna Boy revealed his plans to spend December exclusively with his grandmother.

He conveyed the shift in their interactions, noting that while she once implored him to return home, now she eagerly anticipates his departure on each visit.

The artist’s post underscored the personal connection and emotional journey encapsulated in the song ‘Thanks,’ emphasising his intention to share moments of peace with his grandmother during the holiday season.
