President Bola Tinubu has lent his support to the Senate following the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi, who accused the Senate of budget padding.
President Tinubu stated that those making claims of maliciously inflating the 2024 budget do not understand the numbers.
Tinubu mentioned that he was aware of the figures he presented to the Senate for the 2024 budget and what was approved.
He reassured Nigerians that the country’s current security and economic challenges would soon be resolved, expressing confidence in overcoming these difficulties.
During a special Iftar with Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio and other senators at the State House in Abuja, the president addressed the ongoing allegations of budget padding for the first time.
He thanked the Senate for their efforts, especially in passing the Student Loan Bill, and emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the National Assembly.
The president also pledged to promote collaboration for the progress of the nation.
“I know the arithmetic of the budget and the numbers that I brought to the National Assembly, and I know what numbers came back. I appreciate all of you for the expeditious handling of the budget. Thank you very much.”
