Two female students from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, tragically passed away due to a stampede at the university’s convocation square on Friday.

The stampede happened while the Nasarawa State government was distributing palliatives to the students at the convocation square.

An insider at the university disclosed that two female students lost their lives in the stampede, and many others were injured to varying degrees.

According to the source, the two female students died from suffocation caused by the large crowd, and medical workers later confirmed their deaths.

“What we are hearing now is that two female students have died. They were said to have been suffocated because of the crowd, and they were later declared dead by the healthcare workers,” the source said.

The National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, Yunusa Baduku, confirmed the incident and mentioned that most of the students involved in the stampede had been taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

“Seriously, what happened this morning at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is uncalled for, and very pathetic,” he told Punch.
