Senator Monday Okpebholo from Edo Central has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship direct primary election in Edo State.

The announcement was made by Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, who chaired the Edo APC shadow poll. The results from all 18 local government areas were thoroughly collected and declared at the Lushville Hotel and Suites in Benin.

Senator Okpebholo received 12,433 votes, defeating Dennis Idahosa, the representative of Ovia constituency in the House of Representatives, who got 6,541 votes.

This victory is significant for Okpebholo, as he is now the APC’s candidate for the upcoming election in Edo State.

The primary election follows a controversial and inconclusive primary held last week, overseen by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The APC National Working Committee stepped in and declared the initial primary inconclusive due to disputes over the premature declaration of Dennis Idahosa as the winner.

Uzodimma stated that Idahosa was in the lead in the gubernatorial race with 40,483 votes, but this was disputed by other party members.

The redo of the primary election aims to resolve the disagreements from before and shows that the APC is dedicated to a fair and democratic process for choosing its candidates.
