US President Joe Biden underwent medical checks in a hospital on Wednesday for his annual medical check-up before the November election.
There is increasing scrutiny over the 81-year-old’s physical and mental health as he considers running for a second term.
The White House mentioned that a summary of the test results from the Walter Reed military medical facility near Washington would be released later in the day.
People are eager to learn more about the health of the oldest president in American history.
Biden, who is likely to face 77-year-old former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election, traveled by helicopter to the medical center, which is known for providing care to US presidents.
“I’m going to Walter Reed to get my physical,” Biden said as he left the White House, and reporters shouted questions at him.
Biden is undergoing a routine medical exam amid growing voter concerns about his age, as he would be 86 at the end of a potential second term.
These concerns were heightened by a recent special counsel report that portrayed Biden as elderly and forgetful, providing ammunition for his Republican opponents.
Although the investigation found no evidence of illegally keeping classified documents, it suggested that Biden might appear as a well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory to a jury.
In response, Biden defended himself in a press conference, insisting that his memory was fine and criticizing the special counsel for suggesting otherwise.
Despite this, Biden later tried to lighten the mood by joking about his age and redirecting attention to his septuagenarian rival, Trump.
During an interview with late-night TV host Seth Meyers on Monday, Biden expressed confidence in himself as a better choice compared to his younger opponent.
Despite having a cancerous skin lesion removed from his chest during last year’s medical exam, Biden received a clean bill of health.
“President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those of as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” his doctor Kevin ‘Connor, said following Biden’s medical examination in 2023.
