Barcelona are in additional difficulty off the field, with an inquiry into agent payment violations reportedly underway.

The La Liga champions are still embroiled in a controversy over payments paid to Jose Mara Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spanish football’s referees committee.

That lawsuit is still ongoing, with Barca accused of bribery and corruption.

The Catalan titans have maintained their innocence throughout and want to defend their name, but another tale has begun.

According to El Confidencial, the Blaugrana are the subject of a tax inquiry being conducted by the Spanish government.

Barcelona is accused of making payments to representatives of players on their books in order to increase salary while avoiding the corresponding taxes.

The payments in question were allegedly made between 2015 and 2018.

Josep Maria Bartomeu was the club president at the time, and there are rumors that he may have a case to answer.

Tax evasion is a serious offense in Spain that can result in large penalties or prison sentences.
