Athletic Club fans filled their stadium to watch their team win the Copa del Rey after a penalty shootout against Mallorca.
After a 40-year wait, Athletic finally lifted the trophy with a 4-2 shootout victory at La Cartuja. Dani Rodriguez scored first for Mallorca in the 21st minute, but Oihan Sancet equalized shortly after halftime.
With no winner after 120 minutes, Alex Berengue scored the decisive penalty to end Athletic’s title drought. Videos later showed thousands of Bilbao fans celebrating the victory at San Mames Stadium.
The video shows fans celebrating their team’s victory on Saturday night, with large screens set up on the field for everyone to watch the game.
Bilbao last won the Copa del Rey in 1984, the same year they last won La Liga. This win is especially satisfying after losing in the finals in 2021, 2020, 2015, and 2012.
Currently sitting in fifth place in La Liga, Bilbao will play against Villarreal on Sunday, April 14, and then face Granada five days later.
