According to reports, Arsenal is monitoring Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in advance of the January transfer window.
In the forthcoming transfer window, Mikel Arteta is eager to bolster his options in midfield, and the Gunners have identified Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa as their top target.
Villa, however, is in a strong negotiating position because Luiz is committed to the team through 2026 under his current contract.
Onana is “being watched closely” by the Premier League leaders, according to MailOnline, and Arsenal is looking into other options.
Joao Palhinha, a 28-year-old midfielder for Fulham who came close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer, is reportedly also on Arsenal’s shortlist. However, because of his age, Palhinha does not fit the Gunners’ recruitment strategy.
Onana, on the other hand, arrived at Everton from Lille in a £33 million deal last year and has made a tremendous impact.
In the summer transfer window, Manchester United showed a lot of interest in the 22-year-old, but Erik ten Hag decided to sign Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina on loan, so the player stayed at Goodison Park.
It’s believed that Arsenal will look to add a new defender during the January transfer window.
According to reports from Portugal published last week, the Gunners are ready to exercise their £51 million release clause in order to sign defender Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP.
