Former US politician and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger found himself detained by German customs officers at Munich Airport on Wednesday for neglecting to declare a valuable luxury watch.

The main customs office in Munich confirmed his detainment and revealed the initiation of criminal tax proceedings against the world champion bodybuilder and action film star, who previously served two terms as the governor of California.

The incident was initially reported by the German newspaper Bild.

Customs authorities noted that Schwarzenegger failed to declare the high-value watch upon his arrival in Munich, despite his apparent intention to leave it within the European Union.

The customs spokesperson emphasized the obligation to pay tax and duty on goods that remain in the EU, which applies to everyone.

While the exact duration of Schwarzenegger’s detainment remained uncertain, officials anticipated that he would soon be able to continue his journey.

According to reports, the actor was on his way to Austria for a charity auction benefiting climate initiatives and had plans to attend the Hahnenkamm ski race in Kitzbühel, Austria.
