Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s track queen, has not been authorized to compete in the upcoming 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, according to World Athletics.
Amusan’s name was removed from the competition by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) because she is now under doping investigation by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
Last weekend, it was reported that the 26-year-old has been authorized to compete at the World Athletics Championships.
However, the organization has now moved to dispute the reports.
“Please be advised, reports that say Tobi Amusan has been cleared to compete in Budapest are wrong,” Nicole Jeffery, World Athletics’ Head of Communications said in a statement.
“No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit.”
It should be noted that Amusan’s name was included on the entry list for the competition published last week, but with the caveat that her participation would be contingent on the outcome of the AIU’s whereabouts failing accusation.
The AIU is likely to reach a decision before the World Athletics Championships begin.
Amusan presently holds the world record in the women’s 100m hurdles.
She won the championship at the most recent World Athletics Championships, which were held in Oregon, United States of America.
