Sadiya Umar Farouq, a former minister of humanitarian affairs, is at risk of being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

She is accused of misappropriating N37.1 billion during her time in office. Farouq, who is married to former Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has chosen not to comply with the EFCC’s request to answer questions regarding the suspicious funds that were allegedly diverted through a contractor named James Okwete.

The ex-minister, who served under former president Muhammadu Buhari, was expected to appear voluntarily before investigators at the EFCC’s headquarters on Wednesday but failed to do so.

“Hajia Sadiya didn’t show up at our office today (Wednesday) for interrogation. In fact, she kept interrogators waiting for hours.” Meanwhile, our operatives may arrest her this week and bring her in for questioning if she fails to show up tomorrow (Thursday),” the Punch Newspaper quoted an EFCC official as saying.
