The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Board of Trustees has suspended the party’s National Leader and 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, for six months for suspected anti-party conduct.

The suspension of Kwankwaso as the party’s national head comes just days after the National Working Committee (NWC) suspended one of the party’s founders, Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Agbo Major.

The temporary National Chairman, Abba Kawu Alli, stated in a statement last week Thursday that Aniebonam’s suspension was due to his disorderly behavior, and that he believed the political platform was his personal estate.

The suspension was effective immediately, according to the party chairman, pending the outcome of investigations by the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

Since the end of the 2023 elections, an internal crisis has been brewing quietly within the NNPP, with allegations and counter-accusations amongst the various parties within the party.

The crisis has reached a head with the suspension of its presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
