The National Assembly will spend nearly N40 billion to purchase 465 SUVs for Sen. Godswill Akpabio and other members of the Senate and House of Representatives.
The cars to be purchased for the use of members of the Senate and House of Representatives comprise 107 Toyota Land cruiser 2023 models and 358 Toyota Prado 2023 models.
Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate; Tajudeen Abass, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Jibrin Barau, Deputy President of the Senate; and Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, are all getting bulletproof cars.
According to market research, the lowest price for a 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser is N125 million, while the highest price for the same model is N135 million.
The Senate paid N50 million on each vehicle in 2019 at the dollar exchange rate of N306.
A dollar is currently worth at least N770 in both the official and parallel markets.
According to a vehicle dealer who provided a breakdown of the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), the new adaptive variable suspension for great rides will be available in the 2023 model.
“The on-road quality will be made smoother than ever. All the trims will come with four-wheel drive, centre locking, terrain camera view, and many other off-road features,” the car dealer told Sun.
“Features you’ll find in the new model include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 10-speaker audio system, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, Heated and Ventilated front seats, Quad-zone climate control, Wireless Charging and Head-up display,” he added.
The Senate Committee on Services will also be in charge of buying two bulletproof vehicles for Akpabio and two for his deputy, Barau.
A bulletproof vehicle constructed in 2023 would cost more than N300 million, according to the car dealer. He predicted that if the existing naira regime does not improve, the price would rise.
Some members of the House believe that since senators are utilizing Toyota Land Cruisers, Reps members should acquire Prado Jeeps as well.
Members of the Green chamber drove Toyota Camry 2019 during the 9th Assembly.
