Ghana qualified for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) with a 2-1 win over Central African Republic in their last group game.

The Black Stars, under by former Newcastle, Brighton, and Norwich manager Chris Hughton, went down in Kumasi in a game where defeat could have resulted in an ignominious elimination.

But new West Ham signing Mohammed Kudus equalized before halftime, and Lyon forward Ernest Nuamah sealed the win in the 88th minute.

The outcome is a tremendous setback for Central African Republic, which had high aspirations of qualifying for the Afcon for the first time.

Angola, on the other hand, finished second in Group E after a 0-0 stalemate with Madagascar in Lubango.

Several key games will take place until September 12 as Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and The Gambia compete for a place in the tournament.

Libya and Equatorial Guinea drew 1-1 in a dead rubber on Wednesday, with Equatorial Guinea and Tunisia having already qualified from Group J.

The African Cup of Nations will get off on January 13, 2024, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

The final will be held on February 11th.
