Kayode Egbetokun, the acting Inspector General of Police, has taken over at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
His presence comes a day after he was named the 22nd Inspector General of Police in Nigeria by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
However, he stated that more work has to be done.
The acting IGP, for his part, stated that he is well aware of the immense responsibility that comes with his position.
He urged cooperation and collaboration, promising to lead a transparent and integrity-driven regime.
He highlighted intentions to improve the Force’s intelligence-gathering capabilities, emphasizing the importance of community policing as one of his administration’s policy thrusts.
He also intends to strengthen inter-agency communication and expand the technological approach to ensuring internal security.
Egbetokun urged Nigerians to assist the police in their fight against criminal activity.

Usman Alkali Baba, the former IGP, claimed in his parting speech that he oversaw a team that had a significant impact on internal security. He is confident that he is leaving a better Force behind.
