Senator Abubakar Kyari, the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Deputy National Chairman (North), has been elected as the party’s National Chairman.

Kyari took over as party chairman from Senator Abdullahi Adamu after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.

In a press conference following the NWC meeting, Kyari formally announced Adamu’s and Senator Iyiola Omisore’s resignations as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

According to Kyari, the APC’s Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, will function as acting National Secretary in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Adamu did not attend the NWC meeting on Monday, and Omisore stormed out of the meeting, which was held at the party office in Abuja.

The APC NWC meeting was presided over by Kyari, who represented Borno North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly.
