Mamadou Sakho, an ex-Liverpool defender, was reportedly involved in a training ground confrontation with his boss at Montpellier, which could lead to his departure.
The 33-year-old centre-back was involved in a violent altercation with Montpellier head coach Michel Der Zakarian on Tuesday evening, according to L’Equipe.
According to the account, Montpellier players had to separate the two men during a training session, with Sakho seizing the coach by the collar and dragging him to the dressing room floor.
Sakho reportedly rushed off the training field after Der Zakarian failed to call a foul on him during a practice match. The 60-year-old challenged the defender, telling him that it was not his decision whether or not to train. Sakho was alleged to be enraged by this and to have complained about his lack of game time in Ligue 1 this season, having been limited to just six minutes on the pitch..
According to L’Equipe, Montpellier might terminate Sakho’s contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season, if he is found guilty of major wrongdoing.
After his contract at Crystal Palace expired in July 2021, Montpellier signed Sakho. The Frenchman previously played in the Premier League for Liverpool, where he made 80 appearances between 2013 and 2017.
