Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of Kano State, has been elected National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) elected Ganduje today, while also confirming Ajibola Basiru, a former Senate spokeswoman, as National Secretary.
The two officials of the party were elected today at the party’s 12th National Executive Committee meeting, which was held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
The conference was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and party chieftains in the National Assembly, among others.
Addressing party officials shortly after his election, Ganduje praised the President and vowed that under his leadership, internal democracy will prevail in the party.
Ganduje also promised to keep a scientific register of party members and to prioritize election management and conflict resolution.
While promising to hit the ground running to assure the party’s success in all upcoming governorship elections across the country, the former governor stated that all party members will face an equal playing field during the primaries.
President Tinubu told the party’s 12th National Executive Committee that the APC had won the elections and that it was now time to fulfill the promises of good government made to the Nigerian people.
According to him, the 2023 election was the best ever held in Nigeria.
The immediate former President, Muhammadu Buhari, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were both absent from the APC NEC meeting.
Bisi Akande, the party’s first National Chairman, was present. According to Naija News, the NEC meeting came after the APC national caucus meeting on Wednesday.
Recall that two members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) quit in mid-July. Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore resigned as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party, respectively.
