Nollywood actress Ronke Ojo, aka Oshodi Oke, has expressed regret over advocating for the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the #EndSars protest at Lekki Toll-Gate, during which the Nigerian military used live bullets and killed numerous demonstrators.
In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, the actress stated that while the APC paid her throughout the campaign; she regretted supporting the ruling party following the October 20, 2020 tragedy.
“You know, when the #EndSARS thing came up, I was so down, I was really, really down. I regretted working with them for that alone,” she confessed.
Oshodi Oke also criticized Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who first maintained that no one perished in the incident.
“Our Governor was saying three things at the same time,” she complained.
The army initially denied its presence on the demonstration site, stating that the photographs and videos were doctored. This followed a live recording of the incident by a Nigerian celebrity, DJ Switch.
The army later accepted its involvement, but claimed that rounds were only fired into the air to impose the state’s curfew.
Nonetheless, the 48-year-old actress expressed confidence in the political party’s ability to take the country to the “next level.”
“I felt APC is going to take Nigeria to the next level. So even while we were campaigning for them, I didn’t collect much,” she said. “I wasn’t looking at the money; I was looking at what is going to happen later.”
The rally was organized by Nigerian teenagers who wanted to put an end to police brutality and unlawful executions.
