Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, has reacted to the reported attack on Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Osogbo Eid praying area, calling it barbaric and nasty.
While denouncing the attack on the governor by alleged political thugs, the Speaker also urged security services to pursue the perpetrators.
Egbedun, who attributed Adeleke’s escape to God’s grace and praised the governor’s security detail for their bravery, warned that continuing a violent attack on a state governor was a crime that should be punished severely.
Tiamiyu Olamide, the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, stated in a statement that the attack on Governor Adeleke was directed at the people of Osun State.
The attack was regarded as an overreach in the statement, and it was harshly criticized in its entirety.
The message also made a veiled dig at the governor’s detractors:
“Trying to exert the pain of losing, which today’s attack represents, is a big miscalculation and will continue to stand as an albatross in your subsequent political journey,” it stated.
Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun has replied to Governor Adeleke’s criticism.
Sunday Bisi, the state party chairman, condemned the incident as a plan to destabilize the state in a statement.
While cautioning Senator Ajibola Basiru to watch his actions, the PDP advised the police to be on the lookout for the dangerous situation, which might push the state to the brink of chaos.
The PDP also cautioned those attempting to disrupt Osun state’s tranquility that they would face a similar amount of resistance.
Bisi also apologized to the state’s Muslim Ummah for the violence at the holy site and promised that proper measures would be put in place to prevent such incidents.
On Wednesday, June 28, Politics Nigeria claimed that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke was allegedly attacked at the Eid prayer area in Oke-Baale, Osogbo.
According to one report, the incident was an attempt on the governor’s life.
At the same time, another denied the allegation, describing the incident as a misunderstanding caused by the governor’s argument with Senator Ajibola Basiru over sitting arrangements.
